Design Details:
This mobile office vehicle is specifically designed to provide legal consultation services to low-income families and is equipped to be highly accessible. This makes it advantageous during natural disasters to reach and serve a wide range of individuals.
The exterior of this vehicle needs to be used as much as the inside for community outreach. We accomplished this by installing plenty of lights to keep everything well-lit in all kinds of weather.
On the passenger side, we installed an awning to create a shaded area for people to gather under and talk to the specialty vehicle operator. There are PA speakers installed under the awning for music and to announce to anyone who might be waiting on the exterior of the vehicle. Hooks were installed to attach a 5’ projector screen as a more cost-effective way to have a presenting screen over installing an exterior TV box. We also created a charging station with a shallow box near the door that, when opened, can act as a shelf with a multi-port USB outlet for easy cable plug-in.
All our electrical equipment is on the driver’s side. This vehicle was created to utilize solar power to help keep the batteries maintained while also using a generator installed in its own custom box to run everything day to day. All the batteries and generators are on this side. On the rear is a roof access ladder on the curbside to help facilitate any maintenance that may need to be done on the roof solar panel or the Star Link satellite that provides the vehicle with internet access.
Moving to the interior of this vehicle, on the front wall, there is an open passthrough into the cab that can be covered by a curtain. On the passenger side after the door is a standing counter with storage underneath it, as well as a refrigerator. Above this counter is an overhead cabinet; this overhead is taller than standard overhead storage, creating that much extra storage space. Between the counter and the bottom of the overhead cabinet on the wall are hooks to store the exterior projector screen when this public outreach vehicle is traveling.
On the driver’s side of this front room is a desk for customer consultations. There is a front bench facing the rear of the vehicle that was custom-made in-house and includes storage under the seat. Two stationary belted seats face forward, and between these two different seats is a desk with a fold-down leaf for extra table space. Above the desk is a 32” monitor with a swing arm.
In the rear of the vehicle, past a pocket door, is a second office area. On the passenger side is a standing counter spanning the length of the room, with a sink for hand washing. Above the counter is an overhead, and in the rear corner is a microwave enclosed in the upper. On the floor are two lengths of tie track for tie-down storage for anything they may want to transport safely. On the driver’s side is a second desk work area with a fold-down leaf and a second custom-made bench facing it. Behind this bench is a large cooler for water storage in this rear room.
