Design Details:
This innovative 35-foot mobile health clinic, designed for Nassau County Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc., serves the Long Island area as a vital resource in tackling the addiction epidemic. More than just a vehicle, it’s a clinically equipped RV providing essential support for those in recovery.
To ensure comfort in any weather, we’ve installed three air conditioning units and heaters throughout the interior. Leveling jacks at each corner stabilize the workspace, even on uneven terrain. Built within a custom coach shell, the vehicle also offers ample storage space beneath.
The practical exterior is engineered for optimal operation. A built-in generator located in the rear driver-side compartment minimizes noise and fumes for those inside, while separate battery storage also helps power the vehicle in the field. Also, on the driver side, a water fill and dump valve supports the sink and bathroom facilities, further enhancing the vehicle’s functionality.
The passenger side features an awning over the entry door, creating a shaded and inviting space. This area, along with an exterior outlet, serves as a valuable workspace for outreach events. The wheelchair lift access door is conveniently placed at the rear on this side, allowing us to install a UVL (Under Vehicle Lift). This keeps the lift from taking up space on the interior when not in use.
Inside, you’ll find a bench seat near the entrance paired with a fold-down desk positioned between it and a swiveling passenger seat, providing a dedicated check-in area. Behind the door, a waiting area with a bench seat accommodates three to four people and includes a large escape window. Next, a standing counter houses a sink, a microwave in an overhead cabinet, and a medical refrigerator underneath. A floor-to-ceiling cabinet separates the kitchenette from the rear exam room and offers a place where the vehicle’s electrical components are conveniently located.
On the driver’s side, two private interview rooms are accessible through single doors. Each door enters to a one-person seated area, allowing for safe exits in case of emergencies. A separation desk has been installed between the two seated positions. The desk acts as a physical barrier, ensuring safety and privacy during interviews. A monitor and corner-mounted camera support the recording of sessions for safety purposes.
The farthest door down this hall leads to the bathroom, which features a toilet and a custom corner counter for the sink, maximizing walking space and accessibility. Wall-mounted soap and paper towel dispensers add convenience.
In the rear exam room, a folding desk mounted to the back side of the pocket door on the passenger side offers a spot for a laptop or paperwork without occupying too much space and allows for additional flexibility. The wheelchair lift access door leads directly into this room, which splits this area. A small counter with a sink on the rear side of the lift door serves as a handwashing station, maintaining cleanliness and efficiency while not impeding the mobility of the wheelchair lift.
On the rear wall, a TV with an additional camera facilitates telehealth appointments, while a removable table provides extra flexible counter space for exams. Finally, a custom folding exam bed fits snugly into the space, ensuring comfort. An adjustable exam light mounted on the ceiling offers targeted lighting as needed, and a second escape window enhances safety.
