This Maricopa County remodel of their mobile medical vehicle, while not drastically changing the exterior, has significantly improved the functionality of the vehicle within. The front exam room at the very front of the vehicle was altered, the exam table was replaced with a more functional model.

The phlebotomy chair on the passenger side between the door and the curtain, which provided privacy, was removed and replaced with a folding workstation and folding bench. Behind the door is the wheelchair lift, which we provided with a curtain and a custom cover to conceal the equipment when it’s not in use. After the lift is a counter with a refrigerator underneath, where there used to be two stacked refrigerators. Above the counter is a small shelf for additional storage.

Down the driver’s side the mobile medical vehicle is a counter that we made larger to accommodate adding a sink and a trash can, as well as a biohazard bin under the counter. Above this counter is an overhead cabinet with a breaker panel inside. Behind this is a bathroom that we made larger by two feet, and a counter shelf and a sink-in counter were added above. We also added a custom passthrough for specimen samples to be handed over to the lab area. Where there was a reception desk and a small counter with a sink, there is now a lab, a counter with a sink running from the bathroom to the folding divider door that gives privacy to the rear exam room.

In the rear exam room, we removed the exam table, ceiling light, and diagnostic board. We relocated the second phlebotomy chair from the passenger side to the rear driver’s corner with a fold-down counter next to it. On the passenger side, we extended the counter across the entire room. We added a sink and moved the second refrigerator from underneath the rear counter. We also extended an overhead cabinet above the counter for added storage.

The added sinks ensure all areas of this mobile medical vehicle pass medical inspection. This enhancement instilled confidence in the project’s outcomes and the vehicle’s compliance with medical standards.
