These custom-made cages in this prisoner transport van give our design an advantage over anything else on the market. We can install the cages to fit from wall to wall and floor to ceiling, negating the need for a sheet roof. This improves the airflow, reduces heat, increases safety and reduces liability even at total capacity.
In this prisoner transport van, there are three caged compartments. We fabricated a partially grated bulkhead to separate the driver and passenger from transported prisoners while allowing an easy line of sight for safety and increased visibility.
The front compartment is accessible through the side door with a wheelchair lift for prisoners who require it, making this vehicle highly accessible for prisoners and the officers loading them into this van, which poses quite a considerable challenge in other prison transport options. Wheelchair restraints are embedded in the floor, and a fold-down bench can be used when no prisoners are in wheelchairs, making this vehicle flexible and accessible for any need ADA or restraint chair needs.
The wall facing the rear has a small access hatch to each of the rear compartments for emergencies. These are securely locked so no prisoners can tamper with them and are installed for emergency removal in the case of any incidents.
Two separate caged compartments are in the rear of the vehicle. In the rear compartments, one side has a bench lining each side of the walls, and each prisoner position is complete with lap belts. The other compartment has a bench along the wall of the van. Each compartment is caged and accessed by the rear and side doors, with additional internal cage doors for improved visibility and extra security.
