Design Details:

This mobile command vehicle was expertly designed and crafted to function as a fully operational mobile command post. We ensured that the Charlestown Police Department had the ability to easily set up and manage their radios and workstation monitors within the vehicle, all while staying within a flexible budget that still allowed for a top-notch design.

The exterior of this mobile command post is outfitted with an extensive array of features, providing a dependable workspace even in the harshest conditions. On the driver’s side, you’ll find a generator housed in an exterior compartment, allowing the vehicle to remain operational in the field for extended periods. Adjacent to this are compartments for the batteries and leveling jacks, keeping all the necessary power sources and controls within easy reach. The rear features an additional storage compartment that contains controls for a 30-foot Will-Burt mast, complete with a mounted camera for 360 operational awareness.

The mast is supported by a custom-fabricated rear step bumper, which includes two stationary steps and a convenient flip-down step. These steps facilitate access to exterior storage compartments. A roof access ladder, installed on the right side, simplifies maintenance access to the two air conditioning units and the U-shaped antenna rail.

On the passenger side, we’ve installed an awning to create a shaded workspace for larger gatherings in the field. Additionally, a custom-fabricated exterior TV cabinet is situated near the entry door, featuring a fold-down workstation for setting up a laptop or paperwork.

Moving inside the vehicle, the front attic storage area is easily accessible and secured behind two latching doors to keep equipment safe during transit. Along the passenger side, just behind the door, a bank of cabinets houses the IT rack while also offering ample storage space. Within the IT rack, we’ve integrated a custom HDMI switcher, enabling the camera feed to be routed to any or all of the interior and exterior TV workstations. An extra HDMI input is available in the exterior TV compartment for added versatility.

On the driver’s side, shelves provide convenient storage for pelican cases, while two workstations follow, the two positions are separated by a refrigerator and complemented by overhead cabinets for more storage. A wire chase runs inside the ceiling from the IT rack to the overhead cabinets above the workstations to make wiring radios to the two workstations as seamless as possible.

At the back of the vehicle, a pocket door leads into a conference room designed for privacy. On the passenger side, you’ll find flip-down seats for easier access around the central table, while the driver side features a custom bench seat with flip-up storage and accessible outlets for charging devices. A counter runs along the back wall, with space for additional equipment such as TVs or radios.

Throughout the vehicle, the walls are lined with whiteboard surfaces above waist height, including all cabinet doors, promoting quick note taking. Below waist height and on the ceiling, carpet has been installed to help absorb noise, creating a focused and comfortable work environment. All electrical outlets, HDMI ports, Cat-6 ports, and radios are neatly placed within wire mold, streamlining maintenance and making the addition or replacement of equipment as straightforward as possible.
