Design Details:

Created for the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a surgical training facility, this 18-foot mobile shelter features a storage attic, enabling training and education to occur outside traditional classroom settings. Its compact design allows it to be transported to various locations as needed.

To ensure a comfortable environment in all weather conditions, the unit is equipped with two rooftop air conditioning units, two vents, and multiple internal heaters. All of these systems, along with the internal electrical infrastructure, can operate independently without needing to be plugged into a building. A robust generator and battery system allow the vehicle to function effectively even in remote areas or within the university’s parking lot.

The exterior of this vehicle boasts several practical features that enhance its ease of use. Leveling jacks are installed at each corner, allowing for a stable internal working space, even on uneven ground. A tri-camera backup system—including cameras on the driver, passenger, and rear—enables safe navigation through city streets.

On the driver’s side, you’ll find the shore cord and generator, the latter housed in a custom-fabricated enclosure to minimize noise and keep fuel emissions outside of the vehicle. Adjacent to this is a storage box that provides additional space for equipment requirements.

At the rear, there’s an access door for an equipment lift, complemented by a scene light overhead to assist with loading and unloading during nighttime operations and to ensure safety.

On the passenger side, an awning over the entry door creates a welcoming entryway and offers shade. An HDMI Cat-6 outlet and an electrical outlet have been integrated next to the door for easy connectivity from outside. Above the door, a scene light provides illumination in low visibility situations.

Stepping inside, you’ll find a small front room that’s separated from the rear area by a pocket door. This front space provides access to the upper attic’s electrical cabinet and additional storage, which has been designated for a CPU and router connectivity hub. Below the attic access doors, there’s an open passthrough into the cab, easily covered with a curtain for added privacy.

Nearby, fold-down two-position seats allow for the safe transportation of two extra passengers. On the driver-side wall, a workstation with overhead storage houses two positions, each equipped with two wall outlets, USB ports, a Cat-6 connection, and an HDMI port. This setup facilitates the monitoring of surgeries happening in the rear room and ensures that phones and equipment remain charged.

The rear room is spacious and intentionally left open for versatility. Following the vehicle’s delivery, the university installed a gurney lock on the floor for the specific training surgeries they plan to conduct. We’ve incorporated clusters of HDMI, Cat-6, and electrical outlets in four separate locations within the rear space, providing flexibility for future monitor installations. Additionally, the rear features the equipment lift, making it easy to maneuver the gurney and other heavy equipment. Next to this lift, a storage closet offers the university a convenient area to store supplies in the rear room.
